Teams / team-generator
Random team generator
Balanced groups, no convenient choices.
- Sourcecrypto.getRandomValues()
- Entropy—
- draws29
Splitting into teams is a partitioning problem, not a drawing one: who gets left out matters. Shuffling is cryptographic Fisher-Yates, then items are dealt round-robin, so the size difference between any two teams is at most one.
Fixed-size mode helps when the player count is not a multiple: teams fill in random order and the last one may be shorter, instead of artificially inflating a group.
How it works
- 01Paste the names, one per line. Extra whitespace is trimmed.
- 02Choose the number of teams or the desired team size.
- 03Every click reshuffles from scratch: no team is "the previous one".
Frequently asked
Random team generator
Are the teams truly balanced?
By count yes: the gap between the largest and smallest team is at most one. By skill no: the system does not know ratings, so it shuffles names, not values.
Can I reproduce the same split?
No, each click restarts from the cryptographic source. If you need reproducibility for a tournament, record the composition: that is the only way back.
How many teams can I create?
As many as there are people. Beyond that the tool refuses instead of creating empty teams.
